Gustaf Ribbing was born into Swedish Nobility and destined to a respectable career, but instead he decided to follow his passion and God to become a doctor and later do work in Palestine.

For his choices he was renounced by his family but he had the support of the love of his life, his wife Elsa.

With two children, the couple traveled to Bethlehem in 1904, where they set up a clinic, and treated the local population under sometimes extreme hardship and dire circumstances, only sustained by their deep faith and belief in God.

The story of Gustaf’s life, told by his granddaughter Elsa Maria Ribbing, is a vivid, anecdotal and unique recount, thanks to the many letters Gustaf and Elsa wrote back home during their time in the Holy Land.

Thanks also to Gustaf’s diligence as a photographer, the story is illustrated with many unique photographs of their life and work in Palestine from 1904 to 1914.
